*Zarda was okay. It was just medium in my book and my meal was okay. It
has a great sauce that I like to buy in the grocery store, The ham sandwich was plain and
fries were fine. Sorry this is late but sabbatical keeps me away from the computer.
*I know that I had barbeque, but I don't remember it.
I think Zarda had the best ambience and service in town, but the meal was very complacent.
The sauce has little character (esp. the vinegar-catsup called the mild sauce). Well, at
least we satisfied those folks who insist that we rate Zarda. I'm looking forward to next
month--wherever it is.
*This is a very fast moving kind of place with orders being done at a
walk-up counter. I had a very nice counter guy who tried to find a penny for me to make
even change and then included a $2 dollar bill in my change. That was a nice touch. I
ordered the beef sandwich with one side. It was a modest-sized sandwich with sliced beef
brisket that was nice and tender. The mild sauce on the table was almost like a ketchup
with a strong vinegar component. The regular sauce had a little kick to it. For my side
item, I had the beans. They seemed to have a little kick to them along with pieces of
meat. I usually give my pickle to Dave, but I was not served one and that appeared to be
an oversight. We all sat in a nicely lit North area of the restaurant and it was pleasant.
There are free refills on the soda which added to the value. This is a big restaurant,
very informal with quick service.
*Beef sandwich on white bread was
good, not as flavorful as I had hoped, but very lean. Portion was a bit small. I'd give
the slaw a 6 (if Rick would add a rating category for health food). It had good
consistency and texture, but a little too heavy on the vinegar for my taste. Location was
handy. Overall, good food, good digs and good company.
*Smirk !
(This comment is apparently some kind of protest against the comment I
added to last months review. It is obviously intended to make a statement since she
did not even provide numerical ratings this month. No word yet on whether she will be
included on future outings.)
*Pretty mid range BBQ experience. I could smell the smoker as I walked in
and thought this may be good. Unfortunately, my pork sandwich lacked the smoked flavor I
had so desired. Fries were ok and beans were so so and I could practically count the
number of them in the bowl! You can order at the counter - which saves you from having to
leave a tip. For $1.35 extra they will "Zardasize" your order. Large drink and
an extra side. This place would be much better if they could figure out a way to get some
smoke flavor in the meat! Have plenty of smoke flavor on my shirt.
*You've gotta be kidding, right? I must say that this
experience took me back to my high school days when I ate this kind of stuff in the
cafeteria. It was a combination of an Arby's sandwich and Heinz BBQ sauce. Don't waste
your time and money going here unless you are curious to find out what nondescript cue
tastes like.
*not good, not bad. Just plain Jane BBQ.
*I have eaten at Zardas 25 times and average is all you can say about it.
It is clean and has a salad bar but no cream soda. No combo plate. The most positive thing
you could say about Zardas is it is close to the college.
*thanks for inviting me (new guy)
*Sandwich was average, beans below average, but
slaw was quite good (tangy and fresh) - I know, only "girls" order slaw at a BBQ
joint!)
*Counter service was fast, room set-up was good because
G.A.S. could all
sit together and was quiet enough to have conversations. Great to see Dave Ellis looking
relaxed from his first month on sabbatical.
*Great atmosphere! Nice set up for service. My five dollars got a small
sandwich, fries, and a drink! The problem was the sandwich was small and tasteless. It was
cheap, but not much of a meal. They have a great setup to serve many people comfortably,
but not much BBQ taste. The pork was sliced thin and had no smoke flavor at all.
