*A very long drive ( the bridge was out), but a nice surprise.
The meat was tender and smoky. The meal and service were top notch.
I will be back.
*This was quite an adventure!! Dan was nice enough to drive to parts unknown to
find this place. It's actually in the Paola airport so you can look outside and
see the little airplanes. We had a wonderful waitress named Shannon who did a
superb job of serving us quickly, accurately and even offered to do separate
checks for our group of 13 folks. I ordered the special of the day and it was
the best I have had at any BBQ place we've been. For $5, I had a delicious,
moist beef brisket sandwich served on white bread with a choice of side and a
drink with unlimited refills. I chose the fries which were thick, crinkle cut
and melt in your mouth. The beef was so good by itself that I hardly used sauce.
Even the tea tasted fresh brewed and it was wonderful. All the while Shannon
took good care of us even though she said she was having a bad day up until that
point. With the road construction and repair, finding this place took
some doing. It was well worth the trip.
*We B Smokin', located at the Paola Airport, is difficult to get to but worth a
trip to check out. Road construction blocks any easy access to get there. We had
to stop and ask for directions! I had the lunch special which included a
sandwich, side and drink for $5.00 even. The brisket was real lean and had a
good smoke flavor. The beans had a mix of red and pinto? along with meat chunks.
Very unique flavor. I did not order fries but had some off the others plates and
they were piping hot and crispy. The sauce was on the sweet side but not much of
a bite to it. Great atmosphere and a nice view of the countryside. Service was
excellent. We had one waitress serve our big group and she did a great job.
Lunch special is a great value. Kind of an odd location for a BBQ joint. I would
think they would have more traffic located in town. However, Good BBQ will draw
people far and away - like us. Nice job at We B Smokin'.
*This place is a little out of the way but worth the trip. I liked the
sauce, it had a bit to it but it was sweet enough. The beef sandwich was
tender and the price was great. There were plenty of French fries and they were
hot/fresh. Our waitress, Shannon, did a nice job.
Great road trip!!
*Good, not great barbeque. Brisket
on bread, side and drink special for $5 was a very good value. Would
recommend the cole slaw to those who like a vinegar based sauce - terrific
taste. Beans were good, brisket all right, sauce had a tang, but the slaw
was great (their own recipe). The Miami Co. Airport location was fun and service
was excellent. The real adventure was finding it. Thanks to my
navigator and a Johnson County "Service Officer" we were directed to
319th St. West of Old K.C. Road. left on Moonlight, right on 327th St. to the
airport. (327th St. is closed to through traffic!)
*Stationed at the Paola Airport, this was a pleasant surprise on our BBQ circuit.
It was a little difficult to find, but the trip was worth it. The
pork and beef were tender and smoky.
The beans rank up there with the best --
chunks of meat and smoky flavor. The portions and value were
excellent -- combo platter with
fries and beans for $6.50. Great deal! The service was
very friendly and outstanding considering there was one waitress for the 15
of us. A great BBQ experience overall - I'd go back. Next time you're
flying see if they have a layover in
Paola!
*The dining area had a view of the Paola
airport runway. Though there were no planes that flew, it was definitely a
unique view. The beef had a good flavor and was tender. The fries were
excellent, if you like thick fries that are crisp. The sauce had a horseradish
undertone and was also tasty. The cole slaw was a family recipe and had a
vinegar base. Those of us that like vinegar, really approved of the slaw. They
also had a great cherry lime aid. The $5 special was a great price for lunch
which included a sandwich, 1 side and a drink.
*Nice long drive with three beautiful women. We go lost of course but thanks to a
nice deputy from the Johnson County SO we found the place. Nice view of the
airstrip. No planes landed while we were there. Oh the food. The beans were
excellent and the ribs were above average. I got the rib plate with two sides
for $ 7.50 and it said there would be 4 ribs but there were six very meaty ribs.
The two sides were beans and fries. The fries were on a platter and enough for
the four of us at the table and we passed the rest to the other table. I
certainly would go back. I liked everything very much except the sauce which was
average at best. The service was excellent. Nice display of BAR B Q ribbons and
awards and a collection of sauces. Their cherry lime aide was better than
Sonic's.
