*Liked the
atmosphere of the "original" Smoke Stack joint. They
do great beans and the sauce is the best in K.C. for my taste.
Brisket could have been a little more tender, but great flavor.
*My meat was
drier than I had wanted, even for burnt ribs! Their beans are
excellent. And the cole slaw is good. Service is friendly
and efficient and the atmosphere is down-home, as BBQ joints should
be!
*The
original. The real McCoy. It's bona fide. Been there
since 1957. Cool old time vibe to the place. It would be
interesting to see some pictures of what the surrounding area looked
like back in 57. Got the Smoked Chicken Sandwich today with a
side of beans. The Sandwich was not my usual order. I
wanted to go light for lunch to save some room for an outing at Sneads
tonight. BBQ for lunch and dinner today! Anyway, the
Sandwich was good, great sauce but the bean serving was the usual
thimble full. The waitress told me it was a 1/2 order.
Well, once I saw Dave's full order, I realized I had received a 1/32
order. Once again...if you are going to serve beans, serve them
in a decent sized portion. How many time do we have to go over
this? It's hard to believe it took us 9 years to get over here!
A fun Birthday outing for me today. Thanks to Dave for buying my
lunch!!
*My meal was
fairly good. I had large portions of beans, fries and my ham
sandwich was huge. I liked the atmosphere. This restaurant
has been here since 1957. It had a nice "old" feel to
it. The service was good and I think most of the people enjoyed
their meal.
*Ahh, yes,
the original Smokestack. This is the reason Jack Fiorella has
been such a BBQ success. It was very enjoyable. The side
of beans is only $2 and it came in a soup bowl. Only the fries
left anything to be desired--they were a bit too greasy, but that may
certainly be expected.
*It was great
to get back to the original Smokestack after so many years.
Diane and Carol, both daughters of the original owners, were there to
greet us and our waitress called everyone "honey." I
ordered the chicken and sliced brisket. It came with little 2
oz. cups of slaw, beans and some fries. My brisket was lean and
moist, the way I like it best. I especially loved the sauce and
the beans. They're tops. The trip was nostalgic to me and
wonderful to see the photo of Russ and Flora Fiorella on the
wall. I remember Russ behind the cash register asking people as
they left, "Was everything all right?" The stained
glass windows, juke box, photo of George Washington and other
furnishings were neat to see again. I enjoyed everything I had
and ordered some brisket to take home.
*It was just
ok. OK joes is so much better. I ordered ribs and chicken at
both places and there was a pronounced difference. My meal was
not very hot when served . The ribs were not very tender and the
chicken was a little dry. The beans were good.
*I hesitated
to rank the atmosphere an 8 because the company was a 10!
