*This
was an interesting set up as they are not doing any cooking on the
premises. The meat is smoked and reheated which impacted the flavor of
my sampler plate. It included some pork tenderloin which was lean and
tender, a couple of ribs and a chicken wrap. In this case, the chicken
wrap is a chicken breast pounded and tenderized wrapped around a
Polish sausage with cheese and topped with bacon. There are two other
chicken wraps as well. The texture of the chicken was quite dry and
not very flavorful. It may have been too dried out from being smoked.
The ribs were seasoned well with a terrific rub. The staff was short
some help and made use of some kind friends to assist with waiting on
tables. The neat surprise was a bottled raspberry sauce produced in
Columbia, MO, and offered along with other regular and hot BBQ sauces.
It was especially delicious on the pork. The owner was friendly
and attentive. Their location was right next to a train station, which
is now an antique store.
*They
are moving in two months due to lease restrictions on serving beer.
But you can bring in your own, what a place.
*The
pork tender, while not having much BBQ taste, was the best loin I have
had for quite some time. I even found a BBQ sauce I could love!!!!
Cole slaw was very good.
*I
enjoyed the different sauces and the ribs. The pork did not taste like
it was smoked. They have different menu items you do not see in most
Bar B Q places and I will go back and try some of the other items. It
is worth the trip and the service was excellent.
*Smoking
Roy’s is located in Pleasant Hill Missouri. It is located in the old
town Library. There is an old train depot in back that has been
renovated and now looks like a series of antique stores. Great small
town atmosphere. Great, friendly service. The owner was there today
and was very nice. My Pork sandwich lacked the smoky flavor I was
hoping for. Tasted like Roast Pork cooked in a oven. I had a few other
fellow diners sample and the results were the same. I super-sized (for
more $$) my bean order. They were good. The side order serving is only
4 ozs. I've ranted about this before. If you are going to serve a
side, serve a side! Beans are cheap! The sauce was very good - just
the right amount of sweet and spicy. No fries served here. I asked for
a small piece of Brisket to sample and it was good. Should have
ordered that instead. Rick gave me a rib and it was tasty. Nice rub
and needed no sauce. I'd certainly go back again to Smoking Roy’s
but I would not recommend the Pork. My overall rating would have been
higher had the sandwich been better.
*Great
variety of sauces! Very
friendly owner.
*Even
if you don't like fish you owe it to yourself to try the BBQ’ed
Catfish. The seasoning was excellent with no fishy taste at all. The
Drive down to Pleasant Hills was pretty nice too.
*Great
rib lunch in a very cool historic downtown setting.
The folks are very nice and the food was worth the trip.
The beans were a bit too much like BBQ sauce with beans added,
but they were pretty good. Overall
a good find.
*A
nice experience!! Pork was not smoky but the rib was tender and meaty.
Coleslaw was great. The sauces were good. The raspberry was especially
tasty. Service was pretty good, we gathered information we didn't even
ask for. I'll go back if I ever make it to P.H.
