*What a great
place to eat wonderful BBQ. It is easy to drive by and not see the
site because a tree is hiding the sign. The atmosphere is very
clean and though there is a large number of trophies and ribbons won by
the group, it is tastefully displayed and non-cluttered. Get directions
before you leave because it does not take long to get there, even from
Johnson County, if you know where you are going. The pulled pork
and brisket sandwich was excellent as well as both of their
sauces. Even the hot sauce is tolerable to those that do not like
very spicy things. The fries were thick and crispy. I did
not have the beans but heard that they were also very good. We are
going to go back and try the burnt ends because the owner claims they
are the best in the city, which I would not doubt due to everything else
I have tried. Their ribs look great as well. I will
definitely go back again because it has become one of my favorites.
*The BBQ lives
up to the impressive array of trophies and ribbons that fill the
restaurant. The beef brisket was very good; lean and flavorful.
I had the large sandwich and it was loaded with meat. I only tried
the mild sauce and it was good. Steak fries were also tasty and
there were plenty of them. Service was fast (however, we were
there after the normal lunch hour). I plan to go back next week
and try the burnt ends.
*Smoking Guns
was a great place to eat. I had a pretty good sandwich, excellent beans
and okay fries. The folks were real nice and great service.
The owner recommended that we try the burnt ends the next time we come
up to North Kansas City. They had SEVERAL trophies and ribbons
from BBQ contests they have won throughout the United States. Great
place!!
*This no-frills
restaurant in North Kansas City serves up some excellent BBQ. You
can see why the owners have so many trophies and ribbons from BBQ
contests. This is good stuff. I had the large sandwich with
brisket and pulled pork, steak fries, and beans. The large
sandwich was overflowing with meat and was plenty for lunch. The pork
and brisket were tender and had great flavor. The beans were some
of the best I've had and I put them at the top of the list with Jack's
Stack. Plus, you get a large portion for $1.50 -- a whole lot more than
most of the places we've been. The steak fries were average --
could have been cooked longer and with some seasoning - but I still
enjoyed them. I liked their 2 BBQ sauces but would really
recommend the hot sauce. It wasn't too hot and had an added
sweetness that I like. We had a smaller group today so I'd like to
go back and try their burnt ends and ribs. This was one of the better
places we've been to lately.
*New place...
Very good smoked meat. The place is full of awards won around the
country. Worth the trip across the river.
