*This place was hopping over the lunch hour on a Friday. Ordering is done at the counter and the long lines moved quickly. I had the sandwich special: 1 meat choice, fries and small soda for $6. This was a great value and the quality was excellent. My brisket sandwich was served on a bun and I took half of it home for dinner because it was so filling with the fries. I ordered extra sliced brisket for the Labor Day weekend. We had it on Saturday and it was still delicious. The sauce has an apple cider vinegar taste to it that was a pleasant change. The woman taking orders behind the counter was friendly and efficient. I will definitely go back.

*I liked Smokin Joes. It was very busy but the service was fast and the food was hot. I liked the location and there was plenty of room for several people to sit. The portions were great and the price was very good for the amount of food we received. I understand the owner is the brother of the manager of the Smokin Joes in Olathe. Again, I would highly recommend this place and it would be a good place to eat with a large group of people.

*Large lunch crowd - waited in line longer than it took to get the order once placed.  If I worked in south downtown I would eat there a lot.

*This was a hoppin' BBQ joint near downtown KC- one of the busiest places we've been to.   Despite the crowd, we received our food fast and hot.  The BBQ was pretty average however.  I had the lunch special(1 meat sandwich, fries and small drink for $6) and also a side of beans.  The portions were good size for a special, but I was disappointed with the beef sandwich.  The beef was very dry and I had to use a lot of sauce. The fries were your normal cafeteria type fries.  The beans looked good with chunks of meat but I found them lacking in flavor.  The atmosphere was fun -- felt like a bar on a Friday after work but without the heavy smoke.  If I lived or worked downtown, I'd go back. Probably would try the ribs or another type of sandwich though.

*Crowded place. Self service long lines. Portions above average. The special was a large sandwich beans or fries and a drink for 6 bucks a great deal. Beans above average and sauce with a bite to it. Could not sit in a group. If it was closer would go back at a less busy time.

*Smokin' Joe's is a busy place, as it should be considering it is the only non-Mexican joint on the strip and if you don't feel like Mexican, it is your choice.  The beans were very good with a hearty mound of  meat blended in them.  My beef was pretty dry necessitating the extra use of sauce.  The sauce is tasty without much of a bite.  I think that I would like to sit down at a table in the late afternoon

*This is a great downtown treasure.  It has good food and a very relaxed atmosphere.  The meat is tender, but definitely needs the sauce for moisture.  The lunch special is a good deal and the service is very fast.  I was impressed.
