*I thought the food was solid, but the service wasn't there.
Pork Ribs were lights out!!!
*I liked Smokehouse BBQ. They have two other locations in Kansas City
outside of Johnson County. I had a good meal with the combination plate
and the sauce was excellent and some of the best I've had on the circuit.
The ribs were excellent and the meat was okay but I missed the BBQ taste
we have experienced at other restaurants. The service was a little slow
but we came during the rush hour on a Friday afternoon. I would have no
problem going back to the Smokehouse. I felt it was one of the better BBQ
places we have been in Johnson County.
*it seems when bar b q joints go high brow there is always a danger...smokehouse
manages to keep great meat but suffers service-wise. certainly a
good choice for taking Aunt Gertrude in town from Des Moines...stained
glass and piped in muzak...the ribs were great -- the beans outstanding!
*Although the waitress was friendly and competent, the wait between
ordering and delivery was outside the boundaries of normal, especially
since the lunch crowd had moved on. That said, I really enjoyed the
meal: very good BBQ sandwich, decent sauce (choice of mild
vs. hot), and the beans, though not just like SMOKE STACK, came awful close. I'd return.
*Bad service marked this BBQ outing. It started when they gave away
our reserved table to another group. Once we ordered, we waited for what
seemed like a half hour before being served. They place didn't seem that
busy. I think they were butchering a pig in the kitchen and they got behind.
Food was pretty good though. Excellent beans, fries were ok, burnt end
sandwich was good and the sauce was quite drinkable. NO bottles of sauce
on the table, classical music, trout on the menu and a upscale decor provided
for an different BBQ experience. Not too bad for a strip mall type BBQ
*I feel, somehow, forced into a dilemma--I loved the food but feel bad
about it because it was SO upscale. I feel better when the place
is a dive, and I have to lock my car and watch my backside. BBQ isn't
supposed to be so clean and safe!! Ah, well, I'll just have to live
with the dissonance--whenever I can!
*The service was slow but overall I would go back again. No cream soda
and the combo plate was all veggies. Nice company and an enjoyable outing.
Missed not seeing Dan there. Having to ask for extra sause was a downer.
I like to have the sauce on the table when I sit next to Jeff "sauce" Anderson.
*Food was good. Service lacked a lot. Not being served for
almost 40 minutes bothered me, but maybe it was the time we were seated.
I enjoyed the so-called hot BBQ sauce. (not very hot but it had a good flavor). The burnt
ends and sausage plate was good and filling. Fries and slaw were
pretty good, too. All in all, I'd go back just to try something different
on the menu.
*A nice place to stop in for BBQ. You may want to make reservations
before you go though. Overall, a great experience with tasty BBQ.
I'm going back.
*I had called ahead for a table as we had 10 in our group. We
arrived on time and were told that our table had been given away.
We were seated in about 10 minutes, and by that time, the restaurant did
not seem near as busy. The service for our table was very slow and
truly the only drawback to our meal. The cole slaw was sweet and
crunchy. I ordered tea and had free refills. There was no red
cream soda on the menu. The combination platter I had was delicious
with sliced pork, ham, and beef brisket along with two ribs. All
were delicious. The beans were the best part of the meal.
Baked, kinda smoky with wonderful chunks of meat in them. I could
have made a meal out of those alone. The décor is casual,
yet nice. This was the first time I experienced eating BBQ while
listening to “the nutcracker”. The two together made for a unique
ambience. |
