*What a winner!  Everything about this place was terrific. The service was quick and the folks were friendly. I ordered the jumbo sandwich with brisket and sauce on the side. This brisket was smoky and full of flavor. I brought home a pulled pork sandwich for my husband and it was also excellent. He liked the option of a hot version of the sauce.  The fries were some the best I have ever tasted. The secret combination of seasonings made them a stand out. The restaurant is easy to find and is clean with a spotless bathroom. I'd go back, even in the snow, to get their Super-bowl carryout special!

*I like this place.  They were willing to give me cole slaw on the side with my Po' boy sandwich - friendly, good service.

*Put this place down as one of my top ten places for BBQ. I am a charter member and this place rocks!! I had an excellent ham sandwich, beans and fries. The beans and fries were some of the best I have tasted in KC. The sauce was a little sweet but it tasted great on my sandwich. Larry let me try some of his ribs and burnt ends. They were outstanding. This is a hidden gem and everyone who likes BBQ needs to try this place.

*Great to see a new BBQ joint in Northeast Johnson County that delivers the goods!!  I had the smoked sausage with sides of beans and slaw - all were excellent.  Beans were more smoky than sweet.  The seasoning on the fries was outstanding. I had a taste of the burnt ends and thought they were good too. Service at the counter was fast and friendly especially considering we were an extra large group. RJ's accommodated us nicely and the owner Robert Palmgren came out to greet us.  Definitely worth a return trip to try the pulled pork po' boy.

*This place is definitely in my Top 10 in KC!  The beans were some of the best of the city - right with Jack's Stack.  The jumbo brisket sandwich was plenty big and the meat was tender and smoky.  The fries were excellent  - hot and seasoned.  The service was fast and friendly and served our big group efficiently.  I'll be back to try their ribs and pulled pork - which others said were excellent.

*I ordered the large sandwich that said that it was 8 ounces. I think that it was deceiving because they must have meant that the total weight, including the 3 slices of bread was 8 ounces. It did not seem ample to me. The pork was good and tender, but the beef was on the dry side. The cole slaw was excellent. I think that I would go back to try the burnt ends and the chicken which received good feedback from our group. The sauce was not very spicy and almost tasted like catsup. I think this BBQ place has potential and will develop over time.

*Good burnt ends and chicken. Ribs were a little above average. I would go back again.

*Good pulled pork.  The ham and beef had an odd taste.

*This was the best BBQ outing we've had in a long time. Everything was just the way I like it. The Pulled Pork sandwich was among the finest anywhere. For some reason, Pulled Pork is hard to find in a lot of places. Forget the sliced Pork and go Pulled! The fries were cooked to perfection with some added seasoning. They just don't get any better. The beans were excellent and had a nice smoky flavor. Usually I rant about places not giving you enough beans. Today, I upgraded my bean order to an 8 ounce serving and it was too much! Would have been better off with the 4 ounce serving. The sauce was very good - especially the hot sauce. You order at the counter - which is the way it should be. Service was fast and friendly. Good size portions and good value. This place had it all today. I've yet to give any stop a 10 rating so a 9 is as high as I've gone. I rated this one today as an 8. There are only a few BBQ establishments in the greater KC area that could compete with R & J's Bob-B-Que on this day.

*Next time I go to R&J's, I will order the pulled pork since that received the most consistently favorable report from those I talked to.  I enjoyed the beans, esp. the initial odor and the meat in the beans, but it lacked a little flavor.  My brisket was too dry for my tastes.  Good regular sauce, but did not try the hot.

*I loved the pulled pork sandwich.  It was tender and smoky.  The fries were great.   Prices were a little high for a lunch, but overall it was a fabulous lunch.
