*I liked
R and J's. I had a good ham sandwich fries and beans. I thought
the beans were a little sweet and I tend to like beans with more of a
smoky taste. The owner was real nice. She is originally from Croatia and
has been there for 14 years. She was also our waitress and she did
an excellent job.. Good place.
*I will definitely
return to R & J's; this is too good a place to get so little
attention. The beef sandwich was very lean, moist and tasty.
Good portions at a good price. I don't care for the attention paid
to vinegar, however; the sauce, beans and slaw are too much influenced
by it for my taste (and taste is what it is all about!) But, I
shall return next time for the ribs which looked very good and meaty.
*This is great place
near the track and all the new shopping in KC. It is worth the
trip. Nice folks...Good food. Not a fancy place, but good
food. Check it out.
*I really liked the
sauce and there were more fries than I could eat. The ribs were very
good, tender and meaty. The service was outstanding and the owner served
the food. It was refreshingly not a chain and I would go back. We had a
crowd of 14 and Dick’s Mom went so Dick and I were not the oldest
persons there.
*Sauce was too
vinegar-y. Fries were hot, which was good, but otherwise unremarkable.
Meat itself was good even though I didn't like the sauce. Cole slaw was
not good - way too vinegar-y.
*Nice BBQ outing. This
was the biggest group we've had in some time. I had the Beef sandwich
and a side of beans. The Brisket was very lean, moist and a nice smoke
flavor. The beans were served in a decent sized bowl just the way I like
it. No one teaspoon sized side order here! However, the beans were a bit
on the sweet side for me. The sauce was a bit sweet also. Fries were
crisp and quite hot. They had one server covering the entire operation
this day and she did a great job. Nice laid back atmosphere. We should
have played some Christmas music on the juke box! I'd go back again.
*There's nothing
fancy about this place - but it serves up some pretty good
BBQ and that's what we're all about. I had the Jayhawk sandwich
with fries and beans ($7.95). The brisket
was tender and there was plenty of meat on the hoagie bun. The sides
were hot and good size portions (the way a side of beans should be!). I
liked the sauce - not too runny and it had a "kick".
We had a big group today but the waitress did a great job serving all of
us.
*I had the combination
plate $9.50. Cold slaw and BBQ sauce had a strong "hint" of
vinegar.
*Excellent beef
sandwich.
