*McGonigle’s is a breath of fresh air (literally, eating outdoors) in the BBQ experience.  The brisket tender, lean and very nicely smoked.  The only two issues I have are the ordering indoors with the other grocery store customers and the sauce that I find too sweet.  I will certainly return to McGonigle’s soon!

*This 1950's style small market sells BBQ hot from the smoker each Wednesday - Saturday.  You pay for it inside and take it home or eat outside at picnic tables.  It was very good.  The beans are quite different than those I have had before.  They are not heavy with sugar or sauce, just good spice and taste.  The sauce was the low spot.  It looks and tastes like heavy French dressing.  Pick a nice day and head over for a bbq picnic.

*Nice area to eat outside. It was a mystery as to what to do once you arrive.  Should I go directly to the smoker outside or go inside and order?  After asking someone in line at the smoker, we were told to go inside and order and pick up sides on our own.  I had half a chicken and it was very tender and juicy.  The person I was with wanted to get the beans but had an evening engagement.  I would go back and try some of the other selections.  It was nice to sit outside in the shade and you would not want to go there if it was cold, rainy or very hot because you can only eat outside or get it to go.

*McGonigle's was great.  I had excellent chicken and the beans were some of the best in KC.  I enjoyed the nice day and sitting outside.  I also liked the idea of the chicken coming right out of the smoker and going straight to my plate.  You had to order and pay for the food inside and then go outside and pick up the food. It was an interesting concept.  I would go back.

*Beans were very interesting.  They had a good flavor with bits of meat and more variety in the types of beans than are in most baked bean recipes.  Slaw was creamy and just sweet enough.  The chicken was very moist and tender but didn't have a lot of flavor, so I tried the sauce which ended up being the sweetest sauce I've ever tasted.  I'll take Masterpiece over it any old day!  Thanks to the GAS guys for welcoming me on this outing!

*This outing scored straight 8's.  The market is a bit out of the ordinary as BBQ outings go but in a good way.  They serve up smoked meat in the parking lot of this neighborhood meat market.  OK, that is a bit unusual but it's definitely worth a stop - especially when the weather is nice.  You order what you want inside of the store at the checkout line.  Upon ordering and paying, you are given colored tokens that relate to your order.  I had a Brisket sandwich and a side of beans.  The brisket was heavily smoked and piled high on a bun.  Very very good.  The side of beans came in a man's sized portion and may have been enough to feed a family of 4.  I remember seeing at least 3 different bean varieties in my serving.  Not your ordinary serving of beans.  For once, someone has figured out that when you order a side, you want a side - not a half teaspoon.  There is nowhere to eat inside but there are picnic tables set up in someone's back yard next to the market.  It felt a bit weird to be eating BBQ in someone's back yard.  Turns out that this property is also owned by the store.  Service was at the counter of the smoker and a speedy delivery.  The sauce was very good and it complemented the Brisket.  $8.00 got me a good sized sandwich, a huge serving of beans and a drink.  I'd recommend the readers to give this place a try.  Just be sure to go on a nice weather day!
