*The food was
decent, not great. The service was fast, but odd. You know, it
only takes a single exchange to get a bad taste in your mouth.
Example, when inquiring about the side I had ordered (I thought I had
ordered slaw) I was told that was not what I had ordered and if I
wanted it, I should get back in line and order it. I was
shocked. All I needed was for him to change my side (it was
still on the counter). Maybe... like the "home of throwed
rolls", this place is trying to become the home of
"rude comebacks to simple requests". I will not go
back.
*The ribs and the beans were way above average and would be worth a
visit just for those two items. Slaw average at best and that
could be said for the fries, pork and sausage. Nothing else sets
this apart from any other strip mall BBQ. The portions were
nothing to write home about.
*Burnt
end sandwich was terrific. The meat was chopped, rather
different, but very good and a generous size. The beans were
full of meat, more like chili than beans, but really good - they could
be a meal by themselves. French fries and cole slaw were
exceedingly mediocre. Service was minimal.
*Great
beans with meat! Fries good but nothing "special" with
flavoring, burnt-ends great (had a little fat for flavor), ribs great,
sauce sweet and not spicy. Cold slaw - a bit plain. Atmosphere
pleasant, sports channel on TV (nice touch- for men), portions
were great, great value - self service, except for food preparation -
check-out person was friendly. Good food, with no after-taste, I
would go back.
*Nothing
too spectacular here. Decent food and portions but not
outstanding. I ordered a burnt end sandwich, but it turned out
to be an assorted chopped meat sandwich. Not bad but not what I
expected. The beans seemed to have the same chopped meat added
and provided an ususual texture. I had the mild sauce today and
it was OK. Counter service - the best way to run a BBQ operation
IMO and friendly folks. Easy to get too off of I-35 and Parvin
Road.
*Mama
Jo's was okay. I had a pretty good sandwich, but the beans and
fries are something I won't miss. I felt like I had a
bowl of chili while I was eating the beans. If you are near
Worlds of Fun, this would be a good place for BBQ.
Otherwise, it was just mediocre and not one of my favorite
places.
*This
place is very close to Worlds of Fun and might be an option for out of
town folks. I ordered a sliced meat and rib platter that came
with one side item. The sliced brisket was tough and it affected
the flavor. The ribs were better. They were moist and
tender with a spicy-peppery dry rub on them that had a kick to
it. I tasted Jeff's beans and thought they had a lot of flavor,
but a smoother texture than most beans I've had, almost as if the
beans were mashed a bit. The sauce is not on the table and
must be obtained by pumping some in a little paper container to take
to the table. I missed Ann on the trip. It was neat to see Larry
Mills.
*Pepper
rub on ribs was too hot for flavorful taste.
