*The rib tips were just like I remembered them.  They were great!  They have changed their service model for this new place.  The old restaurant was order at the window and pick up the food when your number is called.  The new table service model may need some work.  The food was good, but it did take quite awhile for the second table to get their food.  This is a favorite place of mine and I will return.

*I was really looking forward to this new location of Laura and Emmies- it had been a while since I had their great BBQ.  I have to say that it was a disappointing visit.   I was surprised to see how much their  prices increased ($9 for sandwich and fries?) and how this new location lacked the personality and great service that they had at the old place on Prospect.  We were fortunate to have our order taken first so we got our food fairly fast but others in our group were still waiting on their meal a while after I finished.  I can say that I was not disappointed by the food  -- beef sandwich was huge and meat was tender and smoky and the sauce was thick and rich (the way I like it).  I tried some of the rib tips (what they're known for) and those were also excellent.   So the BBQ was great but there's definite room for improvement in the other aspects of the restaurant.

*Having never eaten at the original location of Laura and Emmies, I don't have any way to compare this place from the original.  I ordered the Tuesday special:  turkey sandwich with sides of bean and potato salad.  Turkey was good because of the sauce which I really liked.  Potato salad was outstanding, but the beans were disappointing - not much flavor.  I wouldn't go out of my way to eat there again.

*This was the second time I had been to Laura and Emmie's at their new location.  I would have enjoyed both trips better if the service had been quicker.  From the time I sat down, it took 55 minutes before I was served.  There were only three tables of people, including us, in the restaurant when we arrived.  One had already been served.  By the time I received my order I had to ask for a "to go" box.  The wait staff needs more experience in waiting tables, especially for a lunch crowd who needs to get back to work.  That said, my rib tips were good.  I tried the geen beans and fried cabbage and both of them were very flavorful.  There are ceiling fans that help distribute the smoke in the air and they only made my eyes more irritated.  A return trip would be for carry out only.

*Perhaps it would have been wise to wait till their grand opening before we paid a visit.  They recently moved to Grandview and don't have all the kinks in the operation worked out yet.  I had the Tuesday special - Turkey sandwich, beans and potato salad.  The sandwich and potato salad were good.  The beans need some help.  The sauce is my favorite in Kansas City - excellent. Prices are up and service has slowed - not a good combination.  In time, I'm sure they will get things worked out.  The old location was one of my favorites in KC.

*Laura and Emmie's still serves the great food we found at the old Prospect location, but two things  have changed significantly.  One, the prices are significantly higher (but that is probably due to higher rent for a substantially better place), and two, the service was very slow.  If I were a local worker trying to get in and out in less than an hour, I would be cooked.  I hope they can stay in business because the eatin' is great, but they won't if they don't get people served in a reasonable time.  My beef sandwich was juicy and lean, a good combination--I loved it!  Just pick up the speed.

*It was ok.  Didn't care for the sauce.  Great portions on the sandwich and fries.  Service was slow.  Sandwich was tasty with good flavor but a better sauce would have made it excellent.

*After waiting 52 minutes for my rib tips I was really hungry .  The rib tips were excellent and unless the service gets better they will have trouble with return customers.  The side orders were not very large for the price of the dinners.  The dinners were supposed to come with wheat bread and a salad.  They did not bring either item.

*Be prepared to wait for a long time.  It took over 40 minutes to get our food.  That is not acceptable at lunch time, especially since our group were the only tables there.  I had the rib tips which were a good flavor but a little on the dry side.  The brisket sandwich looked great and I hear it was good.  The beans were on the runny side and just average or below because they did not have a smoked flavor to them.  I may go back again, but I would call and order my meal ahead of time and probably try the brisket.  The fries were good and the sweet potato pie was also good.

*The beans were way too vinegar-y.  The service was quite slow - were they really open for business?  My meat tasted undercooked without the sauce covering it.  Prices are too high, especially for area of the city.
