*I had the pork
sandwich, fries and drink special for $5.75. Sandwich was served
on fresh white bread and contained an average amount of meat. Meat
lacked a smoky flavor. I used the milder of the two sauces.
It was just average. Fries were hot and tasty.
*Pork sandwich
special was very tasty, but on the smallish side. The sign offered
substitutions for fries at an extra price but the counter person stated
"we don't like to do substitutions." Confused?
I was. The grudgingly substituted cole slaw was excellent - not
overly sauced. Beans were on the sweet side which I like, but
could have been a little less so. The two types of BBQ sauce
offered were quite difference from each other; I recommend the spicy
one. Lots of room for our big party and the wildlife mural added a
nice touch.
*Beans were
sweet. Cold slaw was a little dry. Overall, not to bad.
*The pork was
moist and went well with sauce. The atmosphere was
comfortable, not fancy, a good family BBQ joint.
*My lunch
sandwich was much better than my first dinner (burnt ends) a few months
ago. The Pork had a lot of flavor. The sauce is pretty
average. Price was right, service was quick, and the place was
clean.
*A very average
place. They certainly save on paper plates, spoons, forks and knives.
Pickle is $.25 . Nice to have free refills on soft drinks. One of
the two best Bar B Q places in DeSoto.
*The beef
sandwich was tender but on the dry side, though there was an ample
amount of meat on the sandwich. The fries were crispy and good.
There are two sauces made there, one hot and the other regular and not
too sweet or spicy. The beans were very good and very sweet with added
brown sugar and/or molasses. The dining area was clean and a sized to
handle our large group. I would visit them again if they were on my way
to my destination.
*Kingsford's BBQ
(located just north of K-10 in DeSoto) serves some respectable BBQ, but
nothing too remarkable on this trip. I had the beef sandwich with fries
and beans. While you can smell smoked meat when you come in the
restaurant, the tender beef could have used more flavor. I was
disappointed that the sandwich was small - it definitely could have been
"beefed up". The fries were good (standard
cafeteria style) and you get plenty of them. The beans had some peppers
and a unique flavor but lacked the chunks of meat and smoked flavor that
I like. The BBQ sauce was sweet and I enjoyed it on the sandwich
and fries. Ordering at the counter is a plus and we all got our
food quickly (would have been nice to have plates and utensils though).
Overall not a bad place if you
want to get BBQ on your way to and from Lawrence.
*Nice
atmosphere. They have an order at the counter set up and self serve
drinks. I prefer that arrangement over anything else. Extra plus for
having Mt. Dew. I had the Pork sandwich special. Sandwich, fries and a
drink for five something. The Pork was sliced. IMO, if you are going to
serve Pork, it should be pulled. Ok smoke flavor to the Pork but the
sandwich was lacking something....Pork? Not much meat on this sandwich.
They would be better off to charge a bit more for the special and serve
up more meat. The fries were real good and hot. The beans were good but
they did not have any chunks of meat mixed in with the beans. Service
was great and the place is run by nice, friendly folks. Interesting
history of a lawsuit with the Kingsford charcoal company and this
operation. Glad the BBQ won the suit! I'd go back but next time, I'll
try the Brisket.
*The turkey
sandwich was pretty good, just not as much meat as I had hoped for.
The meat was tender and juicy with a nice smoky flavor. Slathered
with Kingsford's tasty sauce it was a satisfying experience.
Seemed to me the beans had a unique flavor to me that I couldn't put my
finger on. Regardless, they were pretty good. But again what
I considered to be a small portion. I also had the potato salad,
which was satisfying as well, but the portion was the same size as the
beans. The good service from the friendly, accommodating staff
made up for the non-descript facility. If you are in the area I
would recommend a visit.
*I did not care
for either of the two sauces. One tasted very much like V8 juice the
other had a sweet cinnamon taste to it. The beans had a sweet taste as
well. The meat had a good flavor. Over all it was not bad.
*The meat had
decent taste, but the portions were very weak. It was not enough
meat to make even a lunch. BBQ lunches need to be hearty.
The
sauce was just ok.
