*A real BBQ place! Bars on
the windows and smoke everywhere. Rib tips were good, but not much meat.
What's up with no forks?
*Pop from a
machine, no french fries, only spoons, and a smoky room.
Tasty meat and good potato salad. You
wouldn't bring your family for a sit down dinner.
*When one travels from Overland Park into KCK it certainly is a trip to
yesteryear. Having only a spoon to cut meat was a new experience. Being greeted
as one got out of the car to a
dumpster filled with fat really set the tone for Bar B Q. The beans were tasty
but there was a chunk of fat the size of Roseanne Barr. A really unforgettable
experience.
*This place is a true BBQ dive! They even had
the Jerry Wolfskill bars on the windows. Didn't seem like they had any central
heating working. Maybe the smoker was heating the building. The beans were
pretty decent and served in a good sized portion. The beef sandwich was massive.
There must have been half a steer on this sandwich. No fries and drinks came
from the vending machine. Sauce came in small little cups - I hate that. The
beef was very lean but seemed to lack the desired smoked flavor. My overall
rating is skewed by the high score for portions and value. I may have been
influenced by the Dave Ellis "portions" factor. If value and big
portions are important to you, this is the place to go. If I remember correctly,
Jones BBQ is only open on Friday, Saturday and Sunday (. Call before you go to
be sure.
*This is definitely a BBQ joint. I was disappointed that there were no fries
available and that the drinks were from a pop machine. I ordered the large beef
sandwich which was huge. With a side of beans it came to $10.00. My soda was $1
more from the machine so this seemed rather high priced to me. We asked for
forks and were not given any, yet when Burgess had an order to go, he scored a
fork! Thanks to Alan Swartz for his
knowledge of the area and the memories he recounted which added to the
experience.
*I had the best BBQ sandwich I've had in a long time - huge, meaty, lean and
smoked to perfection. The sauce had just the right blend of base and spices.
The beans were full of flavor.
*Jones BBQ is not geared toward serving the formal dining crowd or any dining
crowd for that matter. It is bare bones, essentials only BBQ. The food was great, but anything else is just an after
thought. There is a roof to keep
the rain off, walls to keep the heat in, a pop machine for those who want to
wash it down and chairs for those who eat too slow, other wise, that was it.
It reminded me of the difference between a Harley Davidson and a Lincoln
Town Car. Both will get you where
you want to go and both will give you a great ride in style, but the HD does it
with just the bare essentials.
For serious BBQ, I'll go again. To
impress a date, I'll venture elsewhere. I
loved it!
*I thought Jones BBQ was okay. My ham sandwich was medium and enjoyed the baked
beans. The portions were excellent and several people took food home.
I am full even though they didn't have french fries. Bummer! My favorite
part was eating with spoons, having
to buy my drinks from the vending machine and the empty walls with no pictures.
Happy birthday Wendy!
*the beef was not very tender and fatty. The
portions were good, but the lack of proper utensils, the mystery meat in the
beans, the we-just-barely-had-enough-seats for our group type seating, and
having my clothes smelling like hickory for the rest of the day, well, I think
we've been to far better places. Soda out of a machine???? And the
sauce was too gritty.
*This place had good meat and beans. It
just lacks some of the rest of what you expect in a restaurant (fries, drinks,
silverware or even plastic-ware). It
is, I am sure a great place to pick up some food to take home for dinner.
They apparently don't get much eat-in traffic.
The sandwiches were big and tasty. The
beans had good chunks of meat in them. Try it as a take-out sometime.
*Jones has a good thing goin' with their lean beef, good sauce, and large
portions. So the basics are there,
now let's get some forks, french fries and table sauce.
*definitely no frills...like eating in
someone's front porch that's been closed in for the winter...the pop machine was out of root
beer...they didn't have forks...a real bar-b-que joint. too bad they had no french fries but beans were excellent.
