*Had the lunch special today - Pulled Pork Sandwich with two sides; beans and fries of course.  The sandwich was good, beans came in a modest portion (of course) and the fries were cooked with some of the skin still on.  We had 16 people in the group today which has to set a high water mark for the past few years. Even Couch was there!  Nice atmosphere and good service.  I'd go back.

*Jake's is housed in the old Torre's pizza on Wornall, making this experience somewhat sad for me.  I have many fond childhood (and some adult) memories of times at Torre's and couldn't quite shake the feeling that I was somehow in a "bizzaro" Torre's of another dimension.  "Bizarro Torre's" looked the same except for the horse saddles on the wall, only pizza was not on the menu- replaced by pulled pork, sweet potato fries and baked beans.  Looking past the dim haze of my nostalgia-induced milieu, the bbq was just okay.  I had the "mini" burnt end sandwich and baked beans lunch.  I don't generally require a plate as big as your head, so I thought the mini portion was a good amount.  If you're a big feller who likes big portions, you should ask for, "the maximum" meal.  The sandwich meat was a little dry for my taste and the beans were a little runny.  However, the beans did have a nice spicy "kick" to them that I liked.  The sauce was good but not great.  The root beer flowed like the Hudson, served ice cold by friendly, attentive servers.  I would go back to Jake's to try the pulled pork sandwich and pine for the days of pizza and Space Invaders.

*The special was a good value but to order a full sandwich with two sides was too much money.  Sweet potato fries were $.50 higher than regular fries.  The meat was above average and the young lady that served us did an excellent job.  I would not go back.

*Jake’s on Wornall was a pleasant stop.   Service is as friendly and helpful as you could ever want.  And I get sweet potato fries when I can.  The beef sandwich was thick and moist, a good combination.  The sauce could have been complemented with some variety strengths and bases.  Ambiance is very good with heavy wood paneled wall décor and little cigarette smoke.

*Great service and a very friendly atmosphere.  I had the beef brisket sandwich with two sides and a soda.  The brisket was a little dry; however, the fries and beans were great.  I will be back!

*I thought Jake's was okay.  I liked the new location and it had a nice homey atmosphere.  My ham sandwich wasn't very good.  The meat needed to be smoked and it was pretty fatty.  The beans were good and the fries were okay.  I understand everyone else had a good meal.  I would probably get something else when I go back.

*I had the lunch special - pulled pork sandwich with two sides - for $6.75. The pork was tender and smoky - would have liked a little more meat though.  The beans and sauce were OK - nothing outstanding.  I really liked the sweet potato fries - Jake's signature item.  Service was friendly but a little slow (but we did have 16 people).  Overall not bad - better than my last time at Jake Edwards near the Plaza.

*Cheese corn was very good.

*Formerly the space occupied by Torre's Pizza, this is relatively easy to get to on Wornall Road in the Waldo area.  I ordered a brisket sandwich with 8 oz. of meat and there was plenty left for another meal.  I tried the sweet potato fries someone else had ordered and they seemed a little less tender than I've had before.  The brisket sandwich was in kind of chunks and it was good.  Our waitresses did their best with handling two tables totaling 16 people.

*It was great to see a lot of folks at the outing.  So much so, a song or two might have been in order.  Okay, so we never gave singing a thought.  This is the Jake's restaurant that moved from Main Street.  The price was right and the service was very good, but the pulled pork sandwich, sweet potato fries, and the sauce were average.  The sauce was bland but had a slight kick on the back end.  I was disappointed to sit and eat in a place where folks could light up.  However, I'd probably not complain too much if the tobacco industry came up with a cigarette that smelled like smoked meat.  If they do, then you heard it right here first folks.
