*The 10 year anniversary of G.A.S. and back to where it all started!  Too bad Couch wasn't there today.  I had the luncheon special which included a sandwich, fries and a side.  The brisket was decent but it had too much fat on it for my liking.  Fries were good and the beans were ok.  I have not been here for a very long time and I forgot how much I like their sauce. 10 years ago, you would have to wait for a table.  Today, there was no wait and the place was more than half empty at 12:45.  Not sure what to make of that.  Overall, not bad BBQ but there are certainly better places I'd recommend.  Ten years ago, we thought this was the best around.  Now, 105 BBQ trips and reviews on record, my views have changed.

*I swear my beef sandwich was micro-waved.  It was certainly not freshly cooked; I was disappointed.  The portions were generous.

*Average BBQ.  I would not go back.  There are too many better places to eat BBQ.  The 18% required tip is a bummer.

*The Hayward Special provides more than enough meat for lunch and dinner.  The lean beef was tender and full of flavor.  The one an only sauce is tangy and tasty.  Well worth the price.

*This is one of the first in our area.  It is a decent place to eat, but not the greatest.  I had a huge portion of sliced meat on the Hayward's special, more than I could eat.  The company was great.  This is a good place to take a large group.

*Our trip back to Hayward's for the 10-year anniversary was pretty good.  I had an okay ham sandwich, good fries and excellent beans.  The service was very good and everyone seemed happy.  Hayward's is starting to look old.  It looks like an officer's club on an army base that has been around for quite some time.  Otherwise, I enjoyed the visit.

*It was fun to go to a BBQ place so close to the college, but I was disappointed in the food.  I ordered the sandwich special which came with two sides.  Mine were fries and cole slaw.  Both of those were fine, but my sandwich tasted dry and tired, like it had been warmed in a microwave.  The sauce was too vinegary and spicy hot for my taste.  Our waitress did a super job taking care of our large group and speedily providing separate checks.

*A return visit to where it all began!  Congratulations GAS BBQ on the start on the 10th year for reviews.   As I have previously experienced at Hayward’s, this was a pretty average BBQ stop.  Everything was OK but not outstanding.   The lunch special was $6.95 and included a sandwich and two sides.  The portions were OK, but I found the beef a little dry and fatty.  The side of beans was respectable but not a whole lot of flavor.   For a large group, the waitress did a good job.  Looking forward to 10 more years of reviews!

*I decided not to join the 10-year anniversary trip because I knew I would be sorely disappointed like the two previous times I ate barbecue at Hayward's.  I made the right call, baby!  Besides, I didn't need a trip to nostalgia to know I was right when I threw down the gauntlet 10 years ago.  Go back and compare the Bates City and Hayward's reviews and decide who was right...Bates City is it my friend.  I rest my case.  The ruling is in favor of the defendant (you know who I am).  Court adjourned!  Game, set and match!  I am the Champion...!
