*Had
a good lunch at Gates. This is their nicest Gates restaurant in
KC. The service was great and the store looks nice. I liked the
ham sandwich. The fries and beans were okay. I would recommend
this place to anyone staying near the Plaza area.
*I
really enjoyed the decor and atmosphere at this location. It was fun.
I have had bland Gates and very good Gates. It is always at least
decent. This was a good lunch trip. A great place for
conversation.
*I
have eaten at Gates many times and is consistently good. I like their
multiple choices of sauces and fries are above average. I had beef on
a bun and a lot of fries for $5.99. I used to get their mixed plate
which is now up to $ 12.25. When wanting to eat BBQ, Gates is
always one of the places that cross my mind.
*The
rub on any ribs should be applied to enhance the flavor or the smoked meat.
This rub was in sufficient quantity to be acting as a preservative for the
trip along the Oregon Trail. Furthermore, these ribs tasted oven
baked, quickly, no hint of slow or smoked.
*I
had the beef sandwich with beans and a drink and it came to $11.00. It
was expensive, but the meal turned out to be a great. The brisket was
heavily smoked and very lean. Beans were tasty and served up in a
man-sized portion. I like the variety of the Gate's sauce.
Service was the usual "May I help you?" Nice BBQ restaurant
- pretty fancy decor. Not something you usually expect at a BBQ
establishment. It's very nice. No pepper on the tables! I
asked if I could have some pepper and was told they don't have any.
What's up with that??
