*This has to be one of our better finds for a BBQ
place. This was an excellent pick and I gave it very high ratings in all
categories. I would put it in my top three for beans, my top five for ham
sandwiches and my top three for atmosphere. You walk into this old converted
gasoline place and the nostalgia takes over. You immediately smell that
great aroma of a BBQ place and then once in the restaurant you hear the
sounds of the old 60"s music and pictures of Marilyn Monroe, James Dean
and Babe Ruth. The food then complements the atmosphere with excellent
portions and the best beans this side of LC's and Smokestack. Here is a
guy who knows how to put together a BBQ place and this is one of the best
kept secrets in the KC area.
*A snowy day, good company and good Bar B Q. The
atmosphere was excellent and I recognized every song played. Informative
Barb B Q tips from Larry Bender, the owner, and a nostalgic trip bringing
back precious memories of a very happy and carefree time of life. Excellent
ribs and service. A very unique place with real character. A place worth
a return visit. A spring or summer visit would be nice outside on a picnic
table in what still looks like a small downtown 60's town. Go Lee's Summit
TIGERS! It is too bad more of us did not go.
*Pulling into a gas station for barbecue was a
blast. We strolled out of the van and instantly smelled the aroma
of meat smoking in the air. Mmmm, baby! Then we entered the
place to the sound of 50s music and a room full of gas-related nostalgia.
This is definitely a guys' place.
The sauces, regular, premium and high test, are
great! The premium and high test sauces include hot peppers which
add that extra octane boost. The ribs were well smoked and tender
as was the Carolina pulled pork. Be sure to get the beans with your
order! Prices are fair and the menu is varied especially for a BBQ
joint. Definitely a place to remember, go back and take a friend.
The only drawback is the limited seating; capacity for about 30 people.
*Too bad Lee's Summit is so far from home, or
I would go regularly. This is a great place. The smoky/rub
flavor is very like some of the competitive meats we have judged.
The beans are driploaded. And they have RED CREAM!!! Unlike
places which I forget before I left, I will recall the Filling Station
fondly.
*what a great find! a joint in a crisply
remodeled vintage gas station...excellent food, friendly service...of course
we did have to put up with Jerry's high school reminiscing...
*Great food and a good time. The pork sandwich
was very moist and smoky. The beans will make smokestack sit up and
take note of the competition. Great service. Well worth the
trip out to Lee's Summit. The group was small (six of us) as the
snow and a couple of questionable prior commitments kept some of
the group away. They are going to have to schedule a make-up day.
This is not one they want to have missed. |
