*This
place has a great feel to it. The lunch special was a good deal.
The meat on the sandwich was too fine, almost mushy, for my taste.
The beans need a kick...of some sort. The sweet potato fries were
great while they were hot. I think I decided that for fries sweet
potato is too rich for me. All in all it was a good lunch with
great service. Worth checking out.
*My
first time at Jake Edwards and I was not disappointed. Lunch
special was "Lil' Beef with two sides." Sandwich was
just the right size for lunch and meat had good smoke flavor, but could
have been more moist. Sweet potato fries were very good - beans
were mediocre with no zing. Liked the sauce. I would go
there again.
*The
sweet potato fries were outstanding. The ribs were above
average. I would go back.
*The
sweet potato fries were great. Very nice place. The sandwich
special was just the right size and had two sides.
*I
had to go earlier without the group in order to get back for a
meeting. Luckily, I was seated in the non-smoking side of the
restaurant and it was very pleasant, but a little drafty. I
remember when that part of the building was a hair salon, Beauty
Unlimited. I used to go there in the early 80's. I ordered
the special, a "mini-sandwich with one side." Mine was
beef brisket and I asked for it lean. I was told that all the
brisket is very lean. It came lean and moist and just enough meat
at 4 oz., half the regular size of sandwich. I also had the beans
and sweet potato fries, a house specialty. Those fries are good
and so dense that it only takes a few to be satisfied. I ordered
two specials to go for our family dinner and the beef sandwich was not
as lean as the one I had at lunch. My husband said his pulled pork
sandwich was good. They still carry the True Confections brownies
which are very good. The smoking side was really smoky. I
would like to go back, only if I could be on the non-smoking side.
The décor is neat, a kind of rustic brick and warm burgundy
colors. There was a working fireplace with a tufted leather chair
beside it. Very homey. |
